Earthquake rocks Italy – Italy felt the tremors of a 2.6 magnitude earthquake today as residents came to terms with their first full day under quarantine.

Italians poured out of their homes in the country’s north this afternoon after an earthquake shook Tuscany amid the nation’s growing coronavirus outbreak. The 2.6-magnitude quake, which struck around a mile north of Camaiore, was recorded by the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology at 2.17pm local time. It had an epicenter in the Lucca province in Tuscany and a depth of around five miles, ANSA reported. There were initially no reports of damage as a result of the tremor, though people in Camaiore and nearby Viareggio noted feeling ‘vibrations from the ground’. The 2.6-magnitude quake, which struck around a mile north of Camaiore in Versilia, was recorded by the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology at 2.17pm this afternoon. It was also reported people across Versilia had ‘poured out of their houses’ when the quake struck the area this afternoon.

Covid-19 in Italy claims 463 deaths
Some 9,172 people have been infected with Covid-19 in Italy, with 463 deaths, and there is a growing sense that the numbers will only worsen. In Milan, people at the citys main railway station were required to sign forms certifying the necessity of their travel and both British Airways and Ryanair have said they are cancelling all flights in and out of the country. The Italian government has assured its citizens that supermarkets will remain open and stocked after panic buying erupted when the anti-virus measures were announced, sparking overnight runs on 24-hour markets. Prime Minister Giuseppe Contes office issued a clarifying statement after he signed the new decree late on Monday, stressing that movement outside homes for normal necessities such as grocery shopping will be allowed, as well as for work or health reasons.
